Verdict: OMG!! LEGENDARY!!Tokimeki Memoriaru is the classic Japanese dating sim game in the 90s. It was such a huge hit at that time, kind of like Simgirls in North America. It first came out in 1994, when PC was not remotely as popular. Later on it was also ported to Super Nintendo, PS and SS, producing a huge amount of game-related products, and inspiring countless manga and anime in the process. After the huge success of the first Tokimeki Memoriaru, imitations are inevitable, yet despite their graphics and tech advancement, none of them come close to the popularity of the original TM, including its own remakes and sequels. The story is very old school. The player is a high school kid. There is a rumor circulating in school: on the graduation day, if a girl makes a confession to a guy under a tree at the back of the school, they will stay together happily ever after. Yeah right... but keep in mind it was 1994, we had backstreet boys and spice girls too. The gameplay is all too familiar. Each day the player will assign the actions of the main character, just like pretty much all simulation games. Instead of getting the girl, you have to make the girls coming to you. Hey, and there are a total of 13 girls to choose from. The trademark girl Fujisaki Shiori is basically the fusion of Tomoko and Ami in Simgirls. Shiori is the player's childhood friend. She is intelligent, beautiful, cute and popular at the same time. She is also the hardest girl to get and the player must have all-around high stats. However personally I think she is too perfect even as a game character. Her flawlessness actually makes her a bit dull, in my opinion. In conclusion, Tokimeki Memoriaru does feel old and it may not be able to impress modern gamers, but for the true fans of dating sim games, TM is always the legend that arguably defined the dating sim genre in the history of video gaming.
