Vedict: OMG!! Legendary!Okay, this was an amazing experience, and it's clear a lot of effort went into it, and the end result is beautiful. This game is almost twelve years old already, yet it stood the test of time beautifully.
The musical hints and the very well made graphics make for a sweet, awesome, and fun presentation, with lovable characters, each with a distinctive personality, and very nice hentai scenes that one really must put some work to get. This game looks and sounds great, but it also plays fantastically well. Like other dating sims, this game is about balancing between acquiring skills, buying things and interacting with potential mates, but the story is so involving, with so many amazing scenes and characters, so many sad and happy moments, and so much overall emotional involvement it adds a lot of motivation to the game as a whole. Also, a generous handful of collectibles, secrets and mini-games to discover and to help in getting the girls also add a lot of replay-ability to such a short and lovely game, all of which must be unlocked by completing special quests involving the girls. Another thing I like is how each different girl plays differently. What I mean is that in most dating sims, all characters play the same, all you have to do is talk, buy gifts, date and kiss, but in here, we have to interact differently with each character, for instance, helping Ami build her time machine will lead her to lover status, while helping Karin recover her memories will lead to a sweet slave-master relationship, before she finally remembers everything and walks away (I couldn't find out how to get her to lover status, though) so this is not one of those generic dating sims in which you interact in the exact same way with all the girls. The endings are beautiful and emotional, and I do recommend that people try out all of them, amazing stuff. I did Ami's first, and I was speechless, it was a roller coaster of emotions I won't spoil. I couldn't activate the social network functionality, most likely because this game is already so many years old, but I sure wish I could, just so I could know how that worked. I didn't plan on writing such a long review on this game, but it really has touched my heart in numerous ways, and for that, I can only praise SimMan for the great work he did so many, many years ago. RedHairedBeast Verdict: Terrible!! Avoid this Shit!!THE RUNDOWN To appease the howls of the infamous furries, Major\Minor steps in to fill their date sim needs. With blown out eye-crushing colors and art rivaling the likes of well intentioned deviant-art members, Major\Minor manages to pull together a game only a furfan can appreciate. STORY Major\Minor leaves you and your team to solve mysterious deaths. As you haphazardly stumble your way across answers, you encounter various tales of romance and relationships with other stereotypical furries. The story pacing is sloppy and stories pop up at random. GAME This game is a visual novel made with RPG Maker and your input does not alter the story. Backgrounds are blurred images and every character has 1 picture. Major\Minor is purely a visual novel if anything; do not expect more.
CONCLUSION The furry community is notorious for their obsession and support for all things furry. And so, this game manages to rock a 70% positive rating on steam. In my opinion, this "game" doesn't even deserve to be reviewed, but DSRG exists for this purpose. AVOID THIS SHIT! DSRG
-Gerohan Verdict: It's Okay~RUNDOWN Are you a bird lover? Perhaps you fancied the thought of locking lips to beak after sharing a plate of worms? Hatoful Boyfriend is a wacky visual novel dating sim where you choose between a handful of birds to sweep you off your feet! STORY You start the game as a human girl studying at St. Pigeonation's Academy, a prestigious school for intelligent birds. In your first year, you will get to know all of the wonky bird personalities and pick one to romance! Players can expect to be thrown into a absurd scenarios where you can't help but chuckle to the witty writing and pictures of pigeons. Though punny with words such as "everybirdie" and "nobirdie," and making fun with bird jokes, the best part is the characters. Their stories are well thought out and brings many surprising twists after you choose your boyfriend.
CONCLUSION The writing truly kept me entertained and the character stories were very well thought out, but I couldn't help but feel disinterested. I realize that the game wasn't targeted for a person like me, but I felt that the game was akin to watching a documentary on dirt with a very enthusiastic narrator. I found the bulk of the game fun and light-hearted, but as a male, the flaw lies in its niche. The birds were fun at first, but once you move past the quirky look of pigeons, I couldn't help but want more. Birds and bright pink colors just didn't nudge enough interest in me to care all that much. The game is a short play and doesn't require too much investment to play fully. I would recommend this game for females who want a quick fun experience. DSRG
-Gerohan Verdict: OMG!! LEGENDARY!THE RUNDOWN Lovemore is quite possibly one of the most complete dating sim games out on the market. It offers a visual novel story presentation, a turn base battle system akin to JRPGs, and a dating system. What makes an immediate impression is the fantastic artwork and cinematics that most dating sims don't have. Lovemore creates a new world where you can't help but become engulfed in. STORY Lovemore starts you off in the distant future as a struggling college male or female that wins a vacation to a tropical paradise called Shambala. The player runs into a series of titillating situation introducing you to the love interests of the story. Soon after, A dark looming military power threatens the land and the player is discovered to be a person of prophecy and urged to be Shambala's hero. "Love" powers the player with spiritual energy and in order to build that power the player must find his destined love among 5 girls and 2 guys. At times character's BFF-Sao tends to make you want to throw a brick through a window but later he proves to be a vital role in the grander scheme of things. As the character runs through seemingly impossible situations, there are also moments where you faced dealing with ethical perspective. The game offers an engulfing story that throws you into a surprising emotional ordeal along with quirky moments that make Lovemore feel all the more endearing. The game surprises with fantastic anime art, a series of animated short clips and fully animated CG cinematics. GAME The game connects all aspects of the game via a triangle of stats. Building relationships gives you leveling boosts, "love" increases your fighting ability, and battling makes you more attractive. On a daily basis, one can expect to be juggling stat growth, energy, money management, and dating. The dating system, expects the users to go through an arrangement of activities (talk, gift, flirt, date and more) to level up the relationship status. By holding stronger relationships, the player increases his/her fighting ability and helps build player stats. The goal is to eventually raise the relationship status to "Soul mate" where the most benefits are given to the player. The battle system also serves as a way to build stats and is necessary to progress the story. The battle system is an elemental card-based fight where you assemble a team of "SMA fighters" and fight in an elemental brawl. The player will use skill cards to fight until one team is incapacitated. A certain amount of strategy and luck is needed to best bosses of the game.
CONCLUSION Lovemore is for the player who wants the most of a dating sim game. The story is deep and will connect you to the characters. The battle system offers a full gaming experience that requires strategy, and the dating system gives the familiar dating we are accustomed to. As a package, Lovemore gives the best big bang for the buck and is perfect for beginners and hardcore fans of the dating sim genre. Highly recommended! DSRG
-Gerohan Verdict: OH! I'm in LOVE!!Crescendo is a visual novel that was released in Japan, September 28, 2001. The story revolves around a reminiscing Ryo Sasaki who is 5 days from graduating high school. He will have the option to choose between 5 females to spend his future with. Who will you choose to spend your future with? Is it Kaho, your vivacious classmate? Or Kyoko, the pretty freshman who just confessed her love for you? But then there's also the teenage prostitute Yuka, the provocative school nurse Kaori, and your adoptive sister Ayame. Like most visual novels, expect to be spending a lot of time learning about the characters and progress the story by answer questions via "multiple choice." It is peculiar that the designer had chosen to darken the play screen and have text display over the pictures when prompted. But as a result of this, I found myself studying the pictures more intently knowing it would soon be covered up. The artwork feels nostalgic as it comes from a previous generation of stylized anime, so recent anime lovers may need time to learn appreciate this art style. Crescendo is often said to be one of the sadder eroges out there, so beware of emotional content that can potentially put you into a depressive mood. The game deals with mature themes such as death, and rape. These themes are handled with care to progress the story purely as storytelling device, DSRG -Gerohan Verdict: I Like it!THE RUNDOWN In the eroge universe where most games tend to be visual novels, HuniePop offers a fresh take for the dating sim world aiming for the underappreciated puzzle gamer crowd. It also prioritizes a gameplay-first style which lends itself well to those who just want a gaming experience without the drabble of getting to know the characters. HuniePop offers great artwork and the presentation quality is on par with commercial puzzle based games. Imagine if the creators of CandyCrush were to release an eroge game, you would probably end up with something akin to HuniePop. The art is mainly static characters with expressive facial expressions with sparkly, bubbly effects that pop in and around the screen whenever the opportunity arises. The characters are animated sparingly (through facial expressions) but the lip sync and the expressions are top notch. The soundtrack is poppy and light-hearted but pleasing to the ears without being distracting, but the dialogue is what makes the game truely shine. The voice acting is superb and vibrant enough to keep you giggling throughout. The dialogue often entertained me and the amount of foul language makes the dialogue feel very natural. STORY In HuniePop, you start as a pathetic unemployed loser who spends the day playing video games and drinks alone in bars. One day you meet a "love fairy" who makes it her goal to get poor saps get laid through playing a bejeweled like puzzle game. There isn't much of a story except to go out and conquer women, but the vast amount of characters keep the game interesting enough to keep grinding for sexual glory. The dating aspect of the game is pretty basic as the only thing you need to do is remember basic stats and offer gifts to their liking. While playing, you will be prompted with a text-like feed where the girls will send you pictures of themselves. Also, the sex scenes are just images with sound effects.
CONCLUSION This game is great for those who have ADD. The game has great visuals and presentation but lacks the emotional value most dating sims tend to focus on. Though the bulk of the game was fun, the endings also leave much to the imagination. DSRG
-Gerohan Verdict: OMG!! LEGENDARY!!Tokimeki Memoriaru is the classic Japanese dating sim game in the 90s. It was such a huge hit at that time, kind of like Simgirls in North America. It first came out in 1994, when PC was not remotely as popular. Later on it was also ported to Super Nintendo, PS and SS, producing a huge amount of game-related products, and inspiring countless manga and anime in the process. After the huge success of the first Tokimeki Memoriaru, imitations are inevitable, yet despite their graphics and tech advancement, none of them come close to the popularity of the original TM, including its own remakes and sequels. The story is very old school. The player is a high school kid. There is a rumor circulating in school: on the graduation day, if a girl makes a confession to a guy under a tree at the back of the school, they will stay together happily ever after. Yeah right... but keep in mind it was 1994, we had backstreet boys and spice girls too. The gameplay is all too familiar. Each day the player will assign the actions of the main character, just like pretty much all simulation games. Instead of getting the girl, you have to make the girls coming to you. Hey, and there are a total of 13 girls to choose from. The trademark girl Fujisaki Shiori is basically the fusion of Tomoko and Ami in Simgirls. Shiori is the player's childhood friend. She is intelligent, beautiful, cute and popular at the same time. She is also the hardest girl to get and the player must have all-around high stats. However personally I think she is too perfect even as a game character. Her flawlessness actually makes her a bit dull, in my opinion. In conclusion, Tokimeki Memoriaru does feel old and it may not be able to impress modern gamers, but for the true fans of dating sim games, TM is always the legend that arguably defined the dating sim genre in the history of video gaming. Verdict: I Like it!Katawa Shoujo is a free Visual Novel by Four Leaf Studios released January 4, 2012. You play as Hisao who has arrhythmia and attends a school for the disabled. If you were looking for a game where the disabled are dealt as helpless victims to perverted fantasies, look no further as you are in for an emotional readjustment. Each of the girls have a blatant disability but you will find the story deals with them quite tastefully. The characters generally have a positive attitude on life with a taste of the darkness of being disabled. As you find their motivations in life coupled with bright energy, it becomes a struggle not to care for them as people. A playthrough will generally lasts 4-5 hours but considering the intro, it may take 15-20hrs to play through completion. If you are new to the genre and an avid "video game completist," you will have to replay the game choosing different paths to unlock all the goodies. Replaying a game is often dreaded by most, but Katawa Shoujo offers a completely new story with every character. You will find that each character's story is fresh and unique. Be warned that once you choose a character at the end of the first chapter, that you will have to play out the rest of the game with her in mind. The game is consistent with their theme and overall the art is very well done. The backgrounds seem to suffer but it is definitely worth the trade-off for the amazing sprite art. There are some animated scenes that look really good throughout the story. Though sparse, it leaves me with the impression that more animated scenes would completely blow the hat out of this game. The soundtrack will infect your brain as you listen to the tracks repeat over and over ... and over. I tend to like the repetition as it reminds me of the retro game days, but audio-snobs may find it annoying. Like the characters themselves, the eroge scenes seem to compliment the personalities of the character. Emi, being a funny girl, will get a more funny eroge scene. A fierce character like Hanako will take it more emotionally and so on. In conclusion, this is a recommended play for anyone considering getting their feet wet in the eroge universe. It's a bit on the soft side, but the art alone validifies the play. Highly Recommended! DSRG -Gerohan |
